How does the NHL playoff seeds work?
The NHL playoff format is different from other professional sports, in how the brackets and seeds work in playoffs. A total of 16 teams clinched for the NHL playoff. Three division winners have direct slots in the playoff and the fourth and fifth-highest seeds in each conference will play wild-card rounds since 2017. The Eastern Conference has Atlantic and Metropolitan divisions. The Western Conference has Central and Pacific divisions.
